Friday 9/16/11 The Constitution

What right which people "exercise" do YOU believe IS NOT protected by the United States Constitution?

  1. People believe that slander is not allowed because of the Constitution. However, the only thing the Constitution says is that people have the freedom of speech. Technically, despite slander being a bad thing, slander is not against the Constitution's law.

  2. I believe that the Constitution does not protect people from discrimination. Although there is freedom of religion, there is no freedom from a certain religion being discriminated against. People protesting a mosque being built near the site of the fallen Twin Towers exemplifies this perfectly. Not all people are discriminatory against people practicing different religions, but those who are make sure they are heard.

  3. Gun control is a very controversial matter in the United States. I believe people should be allowed to have guns. It is our right as American citizens to have guns for self defense or an other reasons. If a person can get a gun permit, then they should be allowed to have one.

  4. While it is unprotected, the right to an education is one that the American people at large exercises on a daily basis. Every day, millions of people go to schools providing various levels of education. This unprotected right allows many to expand and enhance their thinking and problem solving skills, which progress not only themselves, but their country as well.---Jesse Wells

  5. The act of slandering someone's name in a political campaign most people think is covered by the freedom of speech, but most of the information presented is not true. This devastates a candidates campaign and should be protected in the constitution. Clean political races should be amended into the constitution to provide Americans with a clear choice for the leader of their country.

  6. People all over the country, especially in the South, carry guns at all times. It would be okay if they carried guns with a permit, but people carry fire arms without a permit. The constitution does not protect these people, and they should face the punishment.

  7. Alcohol in America can be unprotected by the constitution, because many people abuse the aspect that we can have it. This, in turn, causes controversy throughout the United States.

  8. The right of a student to a furthered education after high school is not given in the United States Constitution. I believe all people should have a chance to attend college. A person who may be excellent at a certain field may be denied their right to a college because they do not have the money to pay their dues. I think that something should be done about this, so the gifted less fortunate can have the same opportunities for education past high school that other more fortunate students have. If this law was enforced, the United States would have workers not only enjoying their jobs, but completing more difficult tasks at their workplace as well due to their more rigorous course study and degrees. College should become an addition to every student's education.

  9. I believe that people who have not obtained an education are discrimated by the people who have graduated high school or gone to college. Educated people's exercise of descrimination towards uneducated people is not protected by the United States Constitution.

  10. Paper money is not mentioned in the Constitution. The Constitution does mention coins as a medium of currency, but it has no mention of paper money as one. People now use paper money, so I believe that there is an act that allows that, though I'm not exactly sure. The use of paper money is a better way to pay for services than through the use of coins, for coins are heavy in large amounts.

  11. The United States Constitution protects the American people's right to speak freely; however, it does not give people the right to slander the good name of others. During many political campaigns, some candidates will make up false information and spread it to voters, so as to destroy their opponent's chances of winning the election. Typically, this ends with the more corrupt opponent winning an election, over the better equipped candidate.

  12. The right to be "innocent until proven guilty" is not protected by the Constitution. All people should be tried in the same manner and if the evidence is their for a conviction then one should promptly be made.

  13. Abortion is not allowed in the Constitution and people believe it is. The Consitution clearly states that we are not allowed to murder people, and abortion is murder of a baby who just has not entered the world yet.

  14. The freedom of speech is a right given by the U.S. constitution. Although slander is not outlawed by the constitution it is still wrong. Then the are some places where we have to give up our freedom of speech. If we are in the military we are not allowed to say our opinion of political issues. Also, in school we are not allowed complete freedom of speech everywhere, but that is because of rules we have agreed to.

  15. The right to bear arms is a constitutional right, but the government has driven the price of ammunition through the roof. Making it very hard to own guns. The government is almost taking away this constitutional right by making ammunition cost so much.

  16. Many people believe that the Constitution allows the freedom of absolute speech. In fact there are several instances where a persons freedom of speech can be tampered with. IF you are in a conflict with a police officer, you have the right to remain silent. However, anything you say will be used against you in a court of law. This often times makes a person silent in fear of incriminating himself.

  17. Although is true that the United States Constitution protects the freedom of speech, it does not protect a person's right to slander others. Slander is a problem in tabloids and other media. Some people do not realize the mistake they are making when they slander others.

  18. Many people believe that America that is a free country while it is not. America Constitution does not champion on freedom like it once did instead it prohibits more of a persons freedoms. However people continue to believe that America is a totally free country though it certainly is to a certain extent.

  19. I believe that "No taxation without representation" is not protected by the U.S. Constitution, but people try and exercise that right. For example, immigrants that are not yet eligible to vote, are still subject to taxation.

  20. Freedom of privacy is not protected by the U.S. Constitution, but citizens abuse this freedom as if it is protected. Citizens abuse the right of privacy by getting out of trouble or hiding something. However, these people are clueless that they are not protected by the U.S. Constitution.

  21. Owning ammunition is constitutional, yet there are so many regulations against guns that it makes it difficult to own one. With permits and the actual cost of the ammunition itself, owning a gun almost isn't worth the trouble someone has to go through.

  22. The right to a free education is not listed in the constitution. Many Americans take advantage of this right that could easily be taken away from them. In many places in the world, children are not granted this right; therefore, Americans should be grateful for this opportunity.

  23. I believe that people constantly practice slander although it is not protected by the U.S. Constitution. Politicians lie about each other, as well as those in the courts. I believe the regulations should be tighter on this issue, and that slanderers should be punished.
